AIPIA:the AIPIA Congress in Chicago

2014.07.21

n_20140720_02.jpgThe evidence is clear that momentum for adopting Active & Intelligent Packaging is growing very rapidly - see who is making a major commitment in the latest newsletter: http://aipia.info/news.php

 以下に2つ興味深いパッケージを紹介する。とくに2)は、これから本番となる暑い夏には役に立ちそうである。タイマーで飲用時を知らせるキャップとは、高齢者などに定期的な水分補給を知らせるにはちょうどいい。

1) Bugs Buzz off with Bee Wrap!
Bee Wrapped--a reusable, biodegradable and anti-bacterial beeswax-coated fabric food wrap from Abeego Designs, based in British Columbia, Canada has been recognised in the 2014 BDC Young Entrepreneur Award contest, winning the runners up award of $25,000.
The company claims the wrap is an environmental alternative to plastic wrapping material. Made by infusing hemp or certified organic cotton with bees-wax, tree resin and organic jojoba oil, the company says the material can be used to wrap a variety of food products such as cheese, cut fruit and vegetables, cold cuts or raw meat. For example a cut avocado or pear will not turn brown if tightly wrapped in this material, says Abeego.
The wrap, which has anti-fungal, antiseptic and anti-microbial properties works by letting food breathe. As it is somewhat flexible and slightly adhesive it is easy to mould around the food, a container or the package, says co-owner Toni Desrosiers.
Some great names are lining up to speak at the AIPIA Congress in Chicago - see who is there already and book your place.
Abeego will use the prize money to pursue distribution agreements with an environmentally conscious US-based distribution company that will build sales channels by qualifying the best retail partners for the brand. This will build on momentum already achieved in the Canadian market.

2) Flag waves to make summer cool!
Advertising and PR agency Ogilvy & Mather Paris has come up with an innovative way to remind people to drink the recommended eight glasses of water a day. Designed for Vittel, the French brand of bottled water, the 'refresh cap' is a bespoke screwcap that pops up a tiny red flag every hour to prompt you to take a sip.
When you twist the bottle cap shut, a timer automatically begins to count down the minutes until your next swig of water is due. The device encourages people to stay hydrated throughout the day in a fun and engaging way, promoting good health through design, says the company.
While we can see it's a lot of fun it might rely a bit too much on the consumer keeping an eye on his or her bottle top, or maybe inadvertently they might snap off the flag at some point. However, anything which is trying to keep us cool and hydrated in summer - and raises a smile - is a smart piece of packaging, however simple or fragile it might be!
